Tine and Taylor are joined by Tine's mentor and former Supervisor in University of South Carolina Athletics Mental Health, Dr. Rhea Merck. Rhea has been working with student athletes at USC for nearly a decade. She talks about what is unique in working with this population, challenges they face, and how they respond. Prior to Athletics, Rhea studied and worked in systems theory, specifically marriage & family, which interestingly she still calls upon in her current role. Tine and Taylor discuss with Rhea the importance of understanding how family and environmental roles impact us throughout our life. Rhea breaks down how family systems theory looks at all of the 'parts' of an individual rather than putting them in a box or judging them based on certain actions or behaviors.
